USB-C to Lightning compatibility
It is possible to use bitbox with many iPhone and iPad models which have Lightning ports, however they cannot be directly connected with a USB-C to Lightning cable. There are two primary ways to connect to an iPhone or iPad which has a Lightning port, choose the method that makes the most sense with your workflow.
Connecting to the bitbox’s Ethernet port:
The simplest method is to use a Lightning to Ethernet adapter and connect to the bitbox’s Ethernet port. When using this method the bitbox can be powered via either its USB-C or 2-pin Lemo power port.
Connecting to the bitbox’s USB-C port:
If you would like to use the bitbox's Ethernet port to connect to another device (such as a SmallHD monitor) while simultaneously connecting to an iPhone or iPad with a Lightning port, you will need a Lightning to USB Camera Adapter with a power input (such as the one linked). Connect the bitbox to the USB Camera Adapter using a standard USB-A to USB-C cable that supports USB 2.0 or higher data transfer. The Lightning port can't supply enough power on its own, so you will need to provide power to the USB Camera Adapter as well. Depending on your iPhone or iPad, you may also need to power the bitbox using its 2-pin Lemo power port.
The bitbox is a USB "device" and the USB Camera Adapter allows the Lightning port to run in USB "host" mode, rather than the usual "device" mode of the iPhone/iPad. USB connections must always have one host and one or more device(s).
