Alexa Mini Configuration

Connection

The Alexa Mini provides 24V DC and Ethernet via a single Lemo connector at the rear of the camera. The power provided is sufficient to power the bitbox, though we cannot recommend or advise using other accessories with this port. The Alexa Mini Ethernet port is in a fairly cramped area at the back of the camera, if you have issues fitting a normal Lemo connector, we recommend our Anglissimo rotating Y-Cable.

Arri Camera Access Protocol (CAP) Configuration

Arri CAP is required to use Arri’s excellent Companion application, which is currently in a public beta test program. You can sign up for the test on Arri’s website.
  1. Open MenuSystemCamera Access Protocol (CAP)
  1. Enable CAP server by checking the CAP server enabled box, you will then need to set a password in the CAP server password submenu. By default it is “arri”

Arri Web UI

No additional configuration is required to utilize Arri’s Web UI. It is in many ways inferior to Companion for day-to-day use, and we recommend utilizing the new application. In a Chromium-based browser (we recommend Vivaldi), you simply need to enter the camera’s IP address that you set above.

Common Issues / Troubleshooting

I have set the IP address but still cannot get a response from the camera
Confirm that you have signal as indicated by the status lights on the bitbox. If you do, it is most likely an IP configuration issue. Double check all settings and confirm that the subnets match.
Ethernet link intermittent or not coming online
We have seen certain instances where the ethernet interface of the Alexa 35 will not recognize a 10/100 device plugged into it and will not come online. We have a patch for this in the bitbox firmware, though it was not deployed until Q3 2024. If you have a box older than that and have never had a firmware update, email us at [email protected].
Poor Companion Performance
If your companion configuration includes a “Web UI” tile, remove it and you will likely see improved performance at greater range.
Web UI Slow / Unresponsive
The Web UI requires a fair bit of data throughput which can cause issues at longer distances. You will find much better long range performance with the Arri Companion app.
Live Grade crashes or becomes unresponsive on look update via CAP
Disable Image Capture in the CAP settings menu of Live Grade

Cabling

Bit Part manufactures a custom cable compatible with Alexa 35, Alexa 265, and Alexa Mini LF that provides Ethernet and power in one convenient package. It is available in our store. We also manufacture an Anglissimo Lemo version which features a rotatable connector.
